This project was commissioned by a happy family of five. Both the husband and wife work in the construction industry. Naturally, the husband knows a great deal about renovation, and they have very high and precise requirements for aesthetics, materials, and budget. After discussion, we also reasonably allocated detailed work directions. The wife focuses on fashion and appearance, while the husband focuses on construction craftsmanship and material resource integration.

The key to the floor plan redesign of this split-level villa is the location of the staircase, because the staircase location determines all circulation paths. We made several design proposals and chose the current one. The living and dining area is maximized, and the lighting is also optimal. The light-facing walls of the public area are almost fully opened up, blurring the boundary with the garden, allowing the greenery of the garden to extend into the interior as much as possible.

In the original layout, the entrance door directly faced the kitchen, which was not good for feng shui or circulation. After adjusting the door direction, and since one of the original bedrooms was converted into a sunlit dining room and the original indoor balcony was removed, the living room now has sufficient area. So we gave up a portion of the space and turned the original dining room into the master bedroom's walk-in closet. The entrance foyer also gained a complete wall, adding a sense of ceremony.

The design of the living room changed its original position. After the connection between the living room and the balcony was removed, a beam appeared above. We adopted an arched ceiling design to weaken the structural relationship of the beam. An arched design would be strange if it existed alone; moreover, because of the extensive changes, many corners and angled edges appeared in the public area, making the structure less regular. Using the curved design language can soften the protruding corners while making the walls gentler. On this basis, we also designed arched elements at the TV wall and the dining area.
